Jordan
Owner & Trainer

Hello! I am Jordan and this is Stanley and we live in the beautiful county of Dorset with my husband Rich and our two young sons, Samson and Solomon

Back in 2013 I was in a bad way. Having been to university and landed my “dream” job I was miserable and disillusioned. At the same time I was also dealing with some really difficult personal issues and its safe to say I was extremely unhappy. Animals have always played a huge part in my life and I guess its really no surprise that I have ended up forging a career out of something I am passionate about.

I decided to hand my notice in at my well paid, secure job with all the perks to walk dogs…my family thought I had gone mad. It was the best thing I ever did. Back then I really had no idea what was to come but one thing was for sure…I had the fire back in my belly.

I started out offering dog walking, day care, horse care, all manner of small animal care..in fact if you called me and asked me to help I would always say yes. In 2014 Stanely our Golden Retriever came into our life. To say he was a challenge was an understatment. He blew apart everything I thought I knew about dog training and he was the driving force behind me wanting to become a trainer.

When I started my training journey I was lucky enough to be able to shadow another dog trainer twice a week for three years. This was invaluable hands on experience and it meant I could apply what I was learning daily to our dog walking clients. I built on my knowledge by attending training courses, workshops, seminars etc when I felt confident enough I applied to become accredited with the IMDT. Once I had this affiliation with a professional body it meant that I could start hosting my own classes and offering 1-1 training services. I have since gone on to become a UK Sniffer Dogs Instructor and Canine Hoopers World Instructor

One thing that is really important to me is inclusivity. I want people to feel that they are part of their dogs journey, that they do not feel judged and that they always leave training sessions feeling like they have achieved something.

Dog Walker

I have known Jordan and her family for many years and working with her for two. Initially I looked after her dog Stanley when he was puppy while she was getting Hounds and Hooves up and running.

As a child we always had animals from a pet goose called ‘Jimmy’ to rabbits, cats, we are now on our fifth family dog, a labradoodle called ‘Alfie’ who is certainly keeping my 86 year old Mum on her toes. I have had cats, Beagles and a parrot, my sister currently has two Rhodesian Ridge backs and two horses, as you can see animals have been a big part of my life.

Working with so many different breeds has certainly given me an insight into their different characteristics and a better understanding of each. I have lived mainly in Dorset all my life and working with Jordan has enabled me to explore our beautiful county on foot combining two of my loves, walking and dogs.

I am very proud of Jordan and what she is achieving and love being part of the H & H gang!

Emily
Trainer

Hello, I’m Emily. Animals have always been a huge part of my life, having grown up with a menagerie of dogs, cats, birds, horses, and small furries – however it was a Jack Russell called Neville, the first dog that was mine and mine alone, that ignited my passion for dog training. He was incredibly easy to train and went along with every silly trick I asked him to do and I thought ‘this dog training thing is a doddle!’… and then came Dottie. A spaniel who would far rather sniff out rabbits than be anywhere near me. It took me three years of competing in agility unsuccessfully, before we got our first clear round – but we did, and I was hooked!

Since then I have competed across the country in agility, read every book I could get my hands on, attended every seminar that money will allow, and gone on to study canine behaviour at the University of Hull. After a nerve wracking assessment I also qualified as a member of the APDT in 2021, meaning I subscribe to ethical dog training, based on the latest research.

At home, I live with my partner, our three-year old son, our Collie X Jack Russell, Kyla, and our new cocker spaniel puppy, Bumble. I am lucky enough to have been teaching here at Hounds and Hooves for nearly three years now and I adore it; the feeling that you are enabling dog and owner to have a fantastic life together and seeing their bond develop is second to none.

Trainer

Dogs have been a major part of my life for over 30 years, beginning with Great Danes and Gordon Setters. More recently, I shared my life with two Irish setters and currently two Field Spaniels. I’ve always attended classes with my own dogs and have been very encouraged in the last few years by the move away from punishment-led training towards positive, force-free methods.

Last year, I decided to combine my passion for all things canine with 20 years of teaching experience to open my own training business. Homefield K9 Training runs classes for Puppies, Beginners and Improvers on Portland and 1:2:1 support sessions for training issues and puppy visits.

In addition, I have now been teaching at Hounds and Hooves for nearly a year and love being part of the H&H family. The support and mentorship continues to be a huge benefit. CPD is also very important to me and I am constantly aiming to expand my knowledge.
